The Brown Family Wine Group has announced that its vineyards across Tasmania and Victoria and winemaking facilities at Launceston and Milawa are certified under the Sustainable Winegrowing Australia (SWA) program.

The group includes iconic Australian brands such as Brown Brothers, Devil’s Corner, Tamar Ridge, Pirie and Innocent Bystander.

Dean Carroll, CEO of Brown Family Wine Group, said the company understands sustainability is essential to preserve the longevity of the multi-generational organisation, as well as the industry at large.

“It’s been truly inspiring to see the level of dedication to sustainability in our viticulture and winemaking processes.

“I believe that by prioritising sustainability, we can not only protect the environment but also enhance the quality of our wines and improve the long-term viability of our business.

“I look forward to seeing our sustainability efforts drive positive change not just within our company but across the wine industry as a whole,” said Carroll.

Brett McClen, Head of Viticulture and Sustainability at Brown Family Wine Group, said everyone at the Brown Family Wine Group has worked hard to attain the certification.

“This certification is a significant milestone in our sustainability journey and we are incredibly proud of it. Moving forward, we will continue to build on this achievement by seeking SWA certification for our remaining company-owned vineyards at Milawa, Banksdale, and Mystic Park in FY24,” he said.

A reflection of industry trends, the Brown Family Wine Group’s commitment to policies and practices that protect the environment under the scheme acknowledges that action is needed to ensure the viability of the future of winemaking in Australia.

The SWA is administered by the Australian Wine Research Institute and is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
