Bleasdale has launched a revamped 2017 Frank Potts Cabernet Blend to coincide with its founding fathers’ 204th birthday.

An avid sailor, Frank Potts founded the wine region of Langhorne Creek, located between the Adelaide Hills and the Coorong an hour’s drive southeast of Adelaide, first planting grapes in the region in the 1850s.

The Frank Potts Cabernet Blend (RRP $35) is a unique blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Merlot.

The 2017 vintage, which was awarded the ALH Trophy for Best Red Wine at the 2018 Perth Royal Wine Show, was released on July 11 featuring a modern new label designed by Parallax Design in Adelaide.

“After 169 years and six generations, Bleasdale remains committed to the vision and pioneering spirit of our founder (my great, great grandfather), Frank Potts,” said Bleasdale ambassador Robbie Potts.

“Frank built Bleasdale with little more than a carpentry kit to his name – he built his house, the winery, wine presses, crushers, stills, his own plough, and of course the ingenious system of flood gates that still remain on the property today.

“And when he wasn’t building things at Bleasdale, he built boats – paddle steamers, barges, punts and racing yachts. There was nothing he couldn’t do.”

The descendants of Frank Potts continue as custodians of Bleasdale today, with fifth and sixth generation family members working for the business.

“The Frank Potts Cabernet Blend is one of our flagship wines, and pays tribute to Frank and his vision,” Potts said.

Bleasdale has also taken the opportunity to update the label on its Generations wines (RRP $35), of which the 2016 vintage of Generations Shiraz won the Max Schubert Trophy for Most Outstanding Wine of the 2018 Royal Adelaide Wine Show.

As part of the portfolio refresh, Bleasdale has also evolved its Heritage range (which includes popular names like Mulberry Tree Cabernet Sauvignon and Bremerview Shiraz), as well as it’s iconic Sparkling Shiraz.
