Celebrating World Daiquiri Day

It’s World Daiquiri Day on July 19. The classic Daiquiri features Bacardi Carta Blanca rum, created in 1862 by Don Facundo Bacardí Massó in Santiago de Cuba.

This spirit was the world’s first premium, aged, white rum. It was lighter, softer and more sophisticated in style than any rum of the day, which led Jennings Cox to create the original Daiquiri.

World Daiquiri Day

In 1898, Cox, a US mining engineer, was managing the copper mines in the town of Daiquirí, just outside Santiago de Cuba. Mining in the tropical climate was intense work, but Cox invented an invigorating fix by picking a lime from a nearby tree, squeezing the juice, adding sugar, crushed ice and the classic was born.
