The Institute of the Masters of Wine (IMW) will arrive in Australia next week, October 4, when they will begin their tour of Australia.

The 47 Masters of Wine (MW) will visit Sydney, the Hunter Valley, Mornington Peninsula, Yarra Valley, Goulburn Valley, King Valley, Rutherglen, McLaren Vale, Adelaide, Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley and Clare Valley to gain an insight into Australia’s leading wine producing regions.

As a group that’s well-established in Australia’s wine industry and a long-term supporter of wine education, Australia’s First Families of Wine (AFFW) have come on board as a sponsor of the tour.

AFFW Chairman, Robert Hill Smith of Yalumba, Australia’s oldest family owned winery said: “We were approached by the IMW when they started planning their trip to Australia some time back. Of course, we were keen to be involved and came on board as the Lead Sponsor of the visit to help make it happen. Whilst the MWs will be visiting far and wide, we know they will get a unique look at multi-generational, family owned wineries, as they visit 11 of our 12 families during their stay.

“As a group, we see this as a unique opportunity to showcase our families’ wares in situ – there is nothing more powerful. And we aim to create a whole new set of international influencers on the global stage – a great outcome for the Australian wine category with AFFW leading the charge.”

Visiting 11 of the 12 AFFW wineries, amongst others, throughout the week-long tour, AFFW will ensure that the MWs are educated on the nuances of the Australian wine landscape and how each of the families has contributed to the rich history and provenance behind every bottle of wine that they craft.
