The 2016 Australian International Beer Awards – Australia’s largest annual beer competition – is now open for entries. Entries should be submitted online at www.rasv.com.au and will close on Thursday 24 March.

Brewers this year could stand to win from a number of 30 trophies, including the inaugural New World Pale Ale Trophy, which will recognise one brewer’s distinguished use of New World hops predominantly from New Zealand and Australia.

“RASV, along with our advisory group, continually assesses and evolves the categories within AIBA to reflect industry trends, production techniques and consumer interest,” said RASV CEO Mark O’Sullivan.

“We had been receiving an increased number of entries of this style and this trophy acknowledges the superior quality of New World pale ales that brewers are looking for the opportunity to benchmark.”

Awards will be judged by a lineup of 65 Australian and international judges over three days at Melbourne Showgrounds. Judging take place in the lead up to Good Beer Week in May and will be presided over by Head Judge Warren Pawsey.

Entrants could also receive the Champion Australian Beer and Champion International Beer trophies, as well as honours for Champion Large, Medium and Small Breweries, and both Australian and international and Champion Gypsy Brewer.

Alongside the unveiling of trophy winners at the 2016 AIBA Presentation Dinner, 2015 Champion Large, Medium and Small Breweries will also reveal the highly Collaborative Beer, brewed this year by 4 Pines Brewing Company, Thunder Road Brewing Company and Boatrocker Brewing Company.
