An exciting new range from this new winemaking family

Patrick of Coonawarra is introducing a new range of wines to highlight a new range of premium wines, Single Site, representing the individual vineyards of the much-lauded winery.

The winery introduced its Two Blocks range recently and has now turned its attention to the new range, consisting of the Home Block Cabernet Sauvignon, Aged Riesling and Joanna Shiraz.

Patrick of Coonawarra was established by the late Patrick Tocaciu in 1998 and opened its cellar door in 2004. Now under the stewardship of Patrick’s eldest son, Luke, a finalist in the Young Gun of Wine awards this year, Patrick of Coonawarra continues to make handcrafted, premium wines that highlight the best of this cool-climate region.

The Single Site range brings together three wines from three of Patrick’s most prized blocks.

“Single sites or single-vineyard wines are renowned through the industry, and they are a select parcel of fruit from one single vineyard rather than a blend from multiple blocks or regions. It’s closer to what you’re actually tasting from the region or a specific regional area,” said Mr Tocaciu.

Patrick of Coonawarra says that it is keeping its unique brand identity intact while revealing a fresh feel, seductive golden label and name to match the brand’s evolution.

Mr Tocaciu says, “The embossment behind the actual physical label represents some of those subtleties of the vineyard, referencing north-facing slopes, the cool climate or sixty-year-old vines. Some of those facts about the vineyard are subtly on the label to reflect those unique differences in our wine versus someone else’s.”

Now known as Single Site Range, the iconic flavours you know from Home Block, Joanna, and now Block 5 Aged (previously Aged Riesling) will remain.

Single Site 2015 Home Block Cabernet Sauvignon RRP: $50

Originating from the block of vines around the family home, Home Block is a single vineyard of pure Cabernet Sauvignon and the hallmark of Coonawarra. Rating 95 points in Halliday Wine Companion 2021/2022, this Cabernet Sauvignon is a riper style; rich, elegant and full-bodied, with aromas of rich blackberry and spice and a long, balanced finish.

Single Site 2016 Joanna Shiraz RRP: $50

Established by Mr Tocaciu Snr in 1998 on the sandy loam over clay, south-facing block, in Wrattonbully, this Shiraz is late-ripening and full of flavour. Rated 94 points in Halliday Wine Companion 2021/2022, Joanna is smooth on the palate yet powerful and prestigious. Holding hints of dark chocolate and vanilla aromas, this full-bodied Shiraz brings in subtle flavours of spice, mulberry fruits and red cherries, pairing beautifully with slow-cooked meats and mushrooms. Joanna started as a small trial, launching with the 2012 vintage and it was an immediate hit.

Single Site 2014 Block 5 Aged Riesling RRP: $45

Block 5 Aged is changing its name from Aged Riesling, representing its site, the northern Coonawarra vineyard. An older Riesling comprising all Coonawarra fruit, it is aged in the bottle for at least five years before release. Winning over 15 medals every release, this Riesling showcases intense aromas of citrus and a distinctive toasty character. Delicate on the palate, layered with lime blossom and a wonderful, crisp finish.
