An ALDI whisky stocked exclusively in Australia by the discount supermarket has won Best of Class – Platinum at the Spirits International Prestige (SIP) Awards.

Glen Orrin 30 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky ($99) is described as having exciting flavours of citrus, marzipan and sherry with subtle hints of dark chocolate and fruits of the forest.

Best Of Class is SIP’s most exclusive award, reserved for premium spirits receiving scores in the pinnacle of their respective categories. The Best of Class medal expresses the highest acclaim from judges.

The SIP Awards is the only international spirits competition judged by consumers, with 977 brands from around the globe competing for six award tiers across 93 categories in 2019.

The organisers say the awards deliver “the opinions, thoughts, and voices of the consumers to the general public”.

The Best of Class award was just one of several accolades for ALDI Whisky in the competition.

Its Highland Black 8 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky ($34.99) won Double Gold, while its Highland Earl Blended Scotch Whisky ($29) won Gold.

ALDI Darley's London Style Gin

Darley’s London Style Gin ($28.99), which is described on ALDI’s website as having “a depth of character featuring delicately balanced Juniper flavours” also took home Gold.

The gin has won a slew of other medals in recent years, including Gold at the 2018 Spirits International Prestige Awards.

ALDI Baroque Brandy

ALDI’s Baroque Brandy ($26.99), which is barrel aged in Australia, also won Gold, adding to its previous medals, including Gold at the 2018 Spirits International Prestige Awards and Silver at the 2018 International Wine & Spirit Competition.
