Angove has introduced Naturalis, a new Certified Organic wine range made exclusively for the independent and on-premise trade.

Angove is Australia’s No.1 organic winery, beginning its organic wine journey in 2006 as it looked for a better way to care for and manage its extensive vineyards and be more sustainable with its winemaking.

At Angove Family Winemakers, the vineyard is viewed as more than just the source of grapes to craft wines. It is a holistic system of interconnected organic prosperity. The vine is important, but it is the health of the entire environment that provides the best tasting grapes.

“After a nervous start during the early part of their organic conversion the vineyards soon found their balance and the fruit they produced showed better depth of flavour, which resulted in more flavourful wines,” said Richard Angove, Managing Director and a member of the fifth generation to lead the company.

This was all the impetus the 134-year-old family wine company needed to forge ahead and become fully Certified Organic in all of its vineyards.

At no time during the grape growing and wine making process does Angove use synthetic herbicides, pesticides or fungicides of any type – just sun, soil and love. All inputs are found naturally and are certified by Australian Certified Organic. All of the Angove organic wines proudly wear the ACO Bud logo as a symbol of their quality and a mark of their authenticity.

To maintain its Organic Certification, Angove is audited every year to ensure it is abiding by the strict protocols and practices that are put in place. Angove is also one of a handful of wineries Certified Organic to US, EU, Canada, China and Australia Standards meaning their organic wines are found in many places around the world.

Other initiatives by Angove to be both organic and more sustainable are:

  • Using Indian Runner ducks rather than pesticides in their Warboys Vineyard in McLaren Vale to control snails that make their way into the vine canopy and eat the grapes.
  • Using specially designed under vine mowers, built and modified by Angove’s engineering department, for weed control, which is one of the hardest parts of farming organically.
  • Farming organically and using extensive undervine mulching, reduced irrigation requirements significantly, which is vitally important, especially in the Riverland.

The wines to be launched under the new Naturalis brand are Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Rose, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz.
