The new limited-edition Absolut Recycled is made from at least 41% recycled glass, with the aim of saving the Earth’s resources and sparking a conversation on reuse and recycling.

Absolut has partnered with PS40 bar’s mixologist Michael Cheim to create ‘a drink made of drinks’ in homage to the brand’s belief that a little creativity can turn waste into something useful.

In a typical bin from a pub or bar, around 27% is food waste. In Sydney alone, that’s over 300,000 tonnes per year.

Chiem’s Absolut Re-Tini cocktail (above) uses ingredients that would otherwise go to waste, including citrus husks cooked in leftover olive brine, pea and sad herbs, tomatillo juice and coriander powder.

Cheim said: “The Absolut Re-tini is reimagined from typical cocktail ingredients which are most often wasted in the bar environment.

“Olive brine is delicious yet wasted more often than not. Coupled with citrus husks, which we have in abundance every day, brightens the flavour. The top of a herb is all that’s usually used in garnishes, so I’ve included the sad part – the stalks – in the recipe to bring it all together.”

Chiem explained the bar industry is in the business of providing great experiences with food and drink, but thinking about waste more creatively to create different flavours can allow this to happen in unexpected and exciting ways.

The PS40 cocktail menu is created around whole ingredients wherever possible, where all of one item will be used in its entirety. By rethinking the way you would typically think of waste, it gets you thinking of new approaches and ingredients you never would have – plus it can save money, as well as lighten your carbon footprint,” explained Michael.

Henrik Ellstrom, Absolut’s Global Director of Strategy and Innovation comments  “Absolut has been committed to sustainable production methods for many years; and we are excited to be celebrating this and specifically our recycling efforts in the form of a bottle launch for the very first time.

“We believe that a glass bottle must have a second life; Absolut Recycled is a pure manifestation of this belief. We hope that our new limited edition bottle campaign will inspire more people to use creativity in order to waste less.”

The Absolut Recycled limited-edition bottle is available now for a limited time at leading Australian liquor retailers at an RRP of $41.99.
