Coca-Cola goes sleek and shiny

Coca-Cola South Pacific has announced the limited release of the sleek and unique, Coca-Cola aluminium bottle.

Two creative lines will come to market across the Coca-Cola, Coke Zero and Diet Coke range. The first creative will celebrate the brand’s partnership with the Olympic Games, with a commemorative London 2012 Olympic Games design. The second creative is a refreshed, stylish take on the classic look and feel of each of the three Coca-Cola brands.

Commemorative Coca-Cola, Coke Zero and Diet Coke Olympic Games aluminium bottles will feature a bespoke Olympic Torch image as well as the iconic Olympic rings and will be available from June 8 through August in select licensed venues.

Classic designed aluminium bottles will be available from July until October in participating restaurants and cafes. In addition, they will be available in participating licensed venues after the Olympic Games have wrapped up until October.

The aluminum bottle launch is the most exciting packaging innovation Coca-Cola has introduced into the Australian market since it launched grip bottle packaging in 2008.

“The unique design is an integral component of one of the most recognised icons of our time – Coca-Cola,” said Maree Kirk, Coca-Cola marketing manager, Coca-Cola South Pacific.

“By bringing it to Australian consumers in the popular aluminium format, we are serving up a stylish, premium take on the Coca-Cola range that is sure to be the ultimate accessory to be seen with this winter and during this year’s Games.”

To support the launch of these limited release products, Coca-Cola has developed a number of point-of-sale (POS) executions for venues including counter units with product on display, posters and digital artwork for on-premise plasma screens.

The limited release Coca-Cola, Coke Zero and Diet Coke aluminium bottles will come in a 250mL size with a crown seal cap.

The Coca-Cola bottle design was invented in 1915 to be distinctive on the basis of feel alone. In the Australian beverages market which is dominated by undifferentiated, straight walled aluminium cans, the Coca-Cola aluminium bottle evolves that style to stand out from the crowd.
