Vinomofo finalist at 2018 World Retail Awards



Vinomofo has been announced as a finalist in the World Retail Awards 2018.

The online wine retailer, which says it now has 500,000 customers, is up for the 'Retail Transformation and Reinvention Award', which recognises retailers who the judges believe have most successfully reengineered and re-energised their business to be fit-for-purpose in this new digital age and who look set to deliver sustainable growth.

The award entries are reviewed by panels of expert judges who are specialists in each of the areas covered by the categories. The finalists are judged by the Grand Jury which is made up of retail leaders from across the different sectors and geographies that reflect retailing today. 

Entrants in the Retail Transformation and Re-invention Award must submit supporting evidence and material from the last four years to show the transition of the business.

Vinomofo said it was "so excited" to be nominated for the Awards, which will be presented in Madrid on April 19, 2018.

Vinomofo sets its sights on the US

Justin Dry, co-founder and CEO of Vinomofo, has told Business Insider the company wants to conquer the United States wine delivery market in 2018. 

"A goal for me last year was to launch in another international market, having two launches in 2016, I really wanted to get another done in 2017," he explained. "However, we didn’t quite make it. I thought HK was going to be the next market but after spending more time on it and in market, I decided it wasn’t the way to go.

"This wasn’t a failure by any means, I think it was the right decision to reverse, research and reassess in order to make the right choice rather than the easy one. As a result we are now tackling the largest wine market in the world in 2018 – USA.

"The first thing I did, once it was decided we would shift our focus from HK to the US, was to tell the team. The more time I spend leading, the more I realise just how important regular and open communication is.” 

Beating the Amazon threat in Australia

Last year, Vinomofo did a deal with Australia Post ahead of Amazon’s arrival to speed up parcel delivery.

The deal gave Vinomofo customers the options of same day and customisable delivery for metro areas in the lead up to Christmas.

Vinomofo co-founder Andre Eikmeier told Business Insider the deal with Australia Post realised a long-term goal for the company.

“We couldn’t find a distribution company that could handle the volume of orders and guarantee the level of service we were after,” he said.

“Australia Post has really improved their delivery offering ahead of the arrival of Amazon, so it’s pretty exciting that our mofos can order a case of wine on a Friday morning and be drinking it come Friday afternoon.”
