Record high for German sparkling sales in Australia
Henkell Trocken sales have exceeded the million mark in Australia for the first time, with the brand experiencing double digit antipodean growth.
Reporting on its 2016 financial results last week, Henkell & Co said its core international brands Mionetto and Henkell Trocken had driven much of its profit growth, with sales volumes of Henkell Trocken increasing 4%.
Mionetto is the leading Prosecco brand by volume, with global shipments up 8%.
Henkell closed out the 2016 financial year with record sales revenue of €691.3 million, an organic growth of €24.5m, up 3.6% on the previous year.
Its international business accounted for nearly 60% of its revenue at €414.1 million, compared with domestic sales of €277.2m.
Canada, the United States and Australia lead the international sales boom. US sales were up 11%, while Henkell is the market leader in Canada.
Henkell said it was benefiting from a strategy of shifting away from its low-margin business in Germany and focussing on "internationalisation".
To build on Mionetto Prosecco's record performance, the company has revealed plans to build a Prosecco winery to keep up with demand. The winery, in Italy's Valdobbiadene region, is due for completion in 2018.
