The Baxter Inn's Louis McPherson wins Chivas Masters 2018

Congratulations to Louis McPherson from Sydney's The Baxter Inn on winning the Australian final of the 2018 Chivas Masters.

Now in its fifth year, the Chivas Masters is a global competition across 24 countries that celebrates bartenders who demonstrate cutting-edge skill and creativity and share Chivas Regal’s core values of community, collaboration and generosity.

Six finalists were chosen to participate in the official Chivas Masters Week (16-20 April) where they promoted and served a Chivas cocktail they had created in their bar.

The Australian final was held last night at Pernod Ricard's Barangaroo headquarters, with guests sipping on three Chivas creations: the Chivas Soda with soda water and bitters; the Morning Glory Fizz, with lemon, lime and egg white; and the Spiced Honey Old Fashioned with apple and bitters.

The final featured Cary Hodgson, Lockwood Bar; David Strucken, Bar Layfayette; Justin Croucher, The Gresham; Matt Linklater, Black Pearl; and Yao Wong, The Elysian Whisky Bar.

But it was McPherson's two Chivas serves, combined with results from Chivas Masters Week, that won him the chance to compete in the Global Final.

Emily Andrew, Australian brand ambassador for Chivas Regal, said: “Each of our six finalists impressed our judging panel with their bartending calibre and genuine passion for Chivas Regal. Louis’ impeccable performance sharing his blend of knowledge, creativity and innovation made him a standout winner on the night.”

In June 2018, McPherson will compete at the Global Final in United Kingdom, for the chance to be crowned Chivas Masters Global Champion.

In London, he will work with the best bartenders from around the world, attend workshops from award-winning judges, and pick up skills that extend far beyond bartending in this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

He will also travel to Strathisla Distillery in Scotland, the home of Chivas Regal, to sample some of the finest whiskies in the world.
