Archie Rose releases limited edition summer gin series
Sydney distillery, Archie Rose Distilling Co is launching its Summer Gin Project, a two-part, limited edition gin series that showcases Australia’s most iconic season in its two most distinctive natural environments – bush and coast.
Summer Gin Project: Bush & Coast feature distillates of sustainably sourced local, wild foraged plants, fruits and herbs. Bush launches October 1 and has eucalypt and herbal notes. Coast launches November 1 with fruit elements that evoke a day on the beach and the refreshing coolness of the ocean.
Archie Rose’s Master Distiller, Dave Withers reached out to Diego Bonetto, a specialist in ethical foraging and wild food, to help him source, trial and blend botanicals that could bring these two gins to life.
“Working with Diego has made us re-evaluate how we view botanicals, and has allowed us to appreciate the craft and impact of distilling from a unique standpoint – that of the environment from which these ingredients are typically harvested,” Withers said.
“This process has shown us how amazing flavours can come from imperfect looking materials like under ripe pink peppercorn or weeds like farmer’s friend, which has had a lasting effect on how we consider the ingredients we source and consume in the distillery.
“Where possible, we strive to work closely with producers and wholesalers who focus on sustainability and understand the impact of their growing, harvesting and processing methods, rather than working with ingredients that are commoditised en masse.
Both gins will be available at great bars and independent bottle shops as well as in limited quantities in Dan Murphy’s and Vintage Cellars stores nationally, at the Archie Rose Bar and via www.archierose.com.au
