Accolade relaunches Houghton in the UK market
The Houghton wine range is being relaunched in the UK market after a 10-year absence.
Accolade's Fine Wine Partners division, which launched in January, will roll out the Houghton range in the UK autumn.
The portfolio will include include Houghton Jack Mann Cabernet Sauvignon 2015, Houghton Gladstone Cabernet Sauvignon 2016, Houghton Thomas Yule Shiraz 2014 and Houghton CW Ferguson Malbec 2014.
"We're setting a new benchmark for New World fine wines in the UK through Fine Wine Partners and the arrival of Houghton into the portfolio is a real milestone," said Ade McKeon, the UK and Ireland GM for Accolade Wines. "The Fine Wine Partners portfolio demonstrates our in-depth strength above GBP10 retail and we have a clear pricing and channel segmentation strategy to ensure our wines work for all desired channels."
Fine Wine Partners is focussed on iconic, regionally distinct varietals in premium growing regions and brands including labels such as Petaluma, Croser, St Hallett, Knappstein, Stonier and Tatachilla. The Accolade portfolio also features brands such as Houghton, Grant Burge, House of Arras and Hardy's.
Since its launch, it has secured listings with UK retailers including Majestic and Harrods.
Toby Spiers, previously the Fine Wine Business Manager at Treasury Wine Estates, heads up Fine Wine Partners UK.
Spiers noted: “We have redefined our approach to the sales and marketing of our premium wines for the UK market to be aimed at specialist, prestige and independent accounts in the off and on trade. Our portfolio is a flagship for fine wines from the New World in terms of quality and breadth with some of the rarest and most collectible benchmark wines for their given style, especially looking at our Australian category.
“Australia is comparable to the size of Europe so we should not generalise about its wines with so many climatic influences and soil types, let alone winemaking style or philosophy. We believe the regional story of Australian fine wine needs to be retold and reinforced as we feel not enough has been done in recent times. We have the ambition, wines and a commercial plan to be a leading force behind this long-term effort.”
